We want MiDaDiX to be easy for everyone to use, whatever their device, input method, sight, hearing or motor skills.

Our goal

We aim for WCAG 2.2 AA for the portal's pages: the catalogue, game pages, profile, settings and sign-in forms. This is a goal we work towards and check during development. A formal accessibility audit has not yet been carried out, so we do not claim full compliance.

What we have done so far

The whole portal can be used with a keyboard alone: Tab, Enter, Space, Escape. At the start of every page there is a "Skip to content" link.
The focus is clearly visible; in dialogs it stays inside the dialog and returns to where it was after the dialog closes.
Form fields have labels, and errors are described in clear text and linked to their fields.
The contrast of text and controls is checked automatically; colour is never the only way of showing meaning, as statuses are labelled with text.
Pages scale correctly to 200–400% and work on screens from 320 pixels wide, in any orientation.
The system "reduce motion" setting is respected: unnecessary interface animations are turned off.
The interface is available in Ukrainian, Russian and English, and the page language is set for screen readers.

Known limitations

Games are drawn on a canvas. Screen readers cannot read what happens inside a game. A text description of the controls, goal and rules of each game is given on its page.
Many games need quick reactions and precise movements. Where possible, games support pausing, turning off sound and music, and several ways of controlling them (keyboard, mouse, touch), but not every game has an alternative input method.
Sounds in games do not have subtitles; information that matters for the game is usually also shown on screen.
Flashing and fast effects. We avoid frequent flashing, but if you are sensitive to flashes, take care with fast-paced games.
Testing with the VoiceOver and TalkBack screen readers is still ongoing, so some elements may not be read out perfectly.

When we know about the limitations of a particular game, we list them on its page.

How to report a problem

If something on the site or in a game is not accessible to you, write to zhimchik@gmail.com. Please include:

the page address or the name of the game;
what you were trying to do and what went wrong;
your device, browser and any assistive technology you use (for example, a screen reader or screen magnifier).

We will reply and try to fix the problem or offer another way to get the information you need.

How we test accessibility

Before changes are released, the interface is checked with automated tests (axe-core) and by hand, using a keyboard and with zoom. A full accessibility audit is planned before the public launch. We update this statement as fixes are made.
